Eastlands Homes shortlisted for Award

Children from Wright Robinson school

Over the past two years the TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service)  Connecting People Awards have been recognising and rewarding tenants and people that work with tenants, including Landlords and Contractors for the excellent work they have been doing in Communities across England.

Engaging the young tenants of today, and the future tenants of tomorrow, is a key task for housing providers and communities. Involving younger people successfully requires new ways of thinking and cannot rely on the more traditional methods of involvement. It can require perseverance and commitment. Involving young people can effect positive change in communities by breaking down barriers, providing valuable insight into the experiences of young tenants and promoting cross generational working and understanding.

The ‘Respect Project’ was an initiative originally devised by Steve Coram, Neighbourhood Services Manager - Customer Involvement, in 2009.  The project was developed by Jackie Hynes, Community Safety Manager, and the Community Safety Team in conjunction with the Police and staff at Wright Robinson College.

The aim of the project was to increase an awareness of what Anti Social Behaviour is, an understanding of how Anti Social Behaviour affects individuals and communities. The desired outcome being: a reduction in anti social behaviour reports, a reduction in crime figures, improved communities, and responsible citizens for the future. The lessons were delivered as part of the P.S.H.C.E. (personal, social, health and citizenship education) curriculum in local education.

The winners of each category will be announced at a special dinner on the 3rd February 2010.
